Second Spring Farms was created to solve a practical problem: reliable access to good food isn’t evenly distributed.
In many parts of Alabama, fresh produce and simple, nutritious ingredients are harder to find than they should be. This is not because people don’t care about food, but because distance, cost, and logistics get in the way. Having lived most of our lives near city centers like Birmingham, Alabama and Greenville, South Carolina, we saw firsthand how different food access can look depending on where you live.
Second Spring Farms exists to close that gap.
We operate as a nonprofit food distribution organization with a straightforward model: purchase food at wholesale prices, keep operations lean, and make high-quality ingredients easier to access. Our work is rooted in practicality. We focus on food that fits real budgets, real schedules, and real kitchens.
Our produce-forward meal kits are designed to be practical and flexible. Each kit includes fresh ingredients, clear recipes, and simple guidance so people can prepare meals at home with confidence. We also provide shopping lists for any non-produce items, making it easier to plan, budget, and adapt meals to individual preferences. They’re designed to support everyday cooking and consistent access to good food.
At our core, we believe good food should feel normal, not exclusive. Everyone deserves access to ingredients that support health, learning, and connection — without shame, barriers, or unnecessary complexity.
Second Spring Farms is about dignity, consistency, and making food systems work better for the people who rely on them.
